Let’s face it, facials are not cheap so why not get the most out of your treatment? Except the frequently preached about advice of staying hydrated after facials and massages, not much is said about what not to do after a facial. So, ZONA Med Spa is here to help! We compiled a list of no-no’s to abide by after receiving a facial.
- Do not go into a sauna or steam room
Why? Because you were just steam and extracted for the facial. A sauna or steam room will re-open your pores and sweat will fill them. Thus, defeating the purpose of receiving the deep pore cleaning of extractions in the first place.
- Don’t wash your face
I know this one sounds a little weird, but think about it. If you have an evening appointment for a facial, your Esthetician just spent an hour using medical grade products that are probably better than what you have at home. Let her work soak in and then wash your face the following day. If you have an earlier appointment for a facial in the day, you will want to wash your face and do your normal regime that night. Day time facials always end with protection of SPF, not to mention the reapplication of makeup if you have work or other obligations to go to afterwards. All of which you would want to cleanse off at the end of the day.
- Stay out of the Sun
Every time you step into the sunlight, you expose your skin to damaging aging and skin cancer causing UV rays. (I know, kind of makes you want to hibernate, doesn’t it?) Any great facial involves a scrub or enzyme peel of some sort. Which means you’ve got a brand-new layer of vulnerable skin cells on the surface that can easily burn. Of course an SPF will be applied after any facial treatment however it is up to you to keep that skin safe from that sunshine!
- Don’t pick
If your Esthetician leaves behind a pimple, it’s most likely because it is not close enough to the surface yet and could make the area worse rather than better. Picking and squeezing at your skin can cause scars, the spread of bacteria and even an infection, so leave them alone! Schedule a follow up steam and extraction appointment to get those suckers out by a professional. At ZONA our extractions are always followed up by high frequency to help kill any bacteria and heal the remaining blemishes that could not be extracted at that time. Leaving your skin clearer than when you came in, giving you no reason to pick.
5. Don’t wear makeup
Technically you can wear makeup. However, makeup does clog pores so if possible go all natural for the day! That dewy glow from after a facial reflects light in all the right areas of the face. Giving you the look of using a highlight without actually wearing it! Besides, if your skin doesn’t feel it’s best after a facial, you probably need a new Esthetician (See our Esthetician Chelsea).
